President Biden on Friday said his administration would move ahead with a new program following a Supreme Court ruling that struck down his plan to forgive more than $400 billion
in federal student loan debt. The new approach, Biden said, will be in a “different law than my original plan.” His remarks came hours after the court ruled 6 to 3 that the president’s plan exceeded his authority. The policy stood to benefit more than 40 million Americans. It drew legal challenges shortly after it was unveiled in August, and it had been on hold since November.
